“The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. He fulfills the desire of those who fear him; he also hears their cry and saves them.”

-Psalm 145:18-19

Eastside will corporately participate in a day of prayer and fasting in place of our usual monthly Prayer Night. Below you will find a helpful guide to aide you in your prayer and fasting.

FASTING

You are invited to join in fasting from Tuesday (5/5) after dinner to Wednesday (5/6). We will break our fast by partaking in communion together at Winfrey Point.

Christians practice fasting not to gain approval or union with Christ, but rather to be reminded of our complete dependence on Him who satisfies.

“We fast in this life because we believe in the life to come. We don’t have to get it all here and now, because we have a promise that we will have it all in the coming age. We fast from what we can see and taste, because we have tasted and seen the goodness of the invisible and infinite God — and are desperately hungry for more of him.” -DesiringGod.com

DAYTIME PRAYER

We will spend the day seeking the Lord through prayer. We will pray for The Nations, The City, and Eastside. We have put together a prayer guide below to aide you in your prayer:

When you wake up (in place of breakfast)

Pray for the Nations

“After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, saying, “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen.” -Revelation 7:9-12

Afternoon (in place of lunch)

Pray for the City of Dallas

“But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.” -Jeremiah 27:9

LATE AFTERNOON (IN PLACE OF A SNACK)

Pray for Eastside

“So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.” -Ephesians 2:19-22

EVENING PRAYER

Use the following prayer guide as you drive to Winfrey Point to receive communion.

Wisdom and Discernment

"If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him." -James 1:5

Personal Holiness

“Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy." -1 Peter 1:13-16

A heart for our neighbors and the Lost

“And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him, “Which commandment is the most important of all?” Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: " ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” -Mark 12:28-31

Gratitude for this season

“You are my God, and I will give thanks to you; you are my God; I will extol you. Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever!” -Psalm 118:28-29

COMMUNION

Our day of praying and fasting will conclude with a drive-thru communion and blessing at Winfrey Point's circle drive. Drive by anytime between 6 and 8pm, rain or shine and receive communion (prepackaged) and a blessing through your window via gloved & masked elders.

“And as they were eating, he took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to them, and said, “Take; this is my body.” And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, and they all drank of it.  And he said to them, “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many.” -Mark 14:22-24
